The main event not only of the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup Festival but also the entire Scottish Flat racing season. Top quality race after top quality race with the top billing going to one of the finest sprint handicaps in Europe, the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup.
The roll of honour in this contest includes some of the biggest names in racing and the latest name on the Winner’s Board is Summerghand who won last year for trainer David O’Meara and jockey Danny Tudhope. A popular winner the consistent sprinter won comfortably by a length making it a very special day for Iocally born jockey Danny.
It’s not all about the Gold Cup though with a fantastic supporting card. Scotland’s only Group race, the Group 3 Virgin Bet Firth Of Clyde Fillies’ Stakes is always an exciting spectacle as is the Listed Virgin Bet Doonside Cup which was won in 2020 by the multiple Group 1 winning Addeybb.
The Virgin Bet Ayr Silver Cup is another of the day’s highlights. The atmosphere in the crowd is electric and few race days can match the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup Saturday in terms of excitement.
